When it comes to head aches & migraines, the pain can be immobilizing. Some times lagging on for multiple days! I get them about once a month. The pain can be relentless! Shooting pains in eyes, neck, and some times vomiting. I'm not a doctor, so I am not advising to replace any medication or saying not to take pain relieving medicine for your head aches or migraines. I often have to take pain medicine to get through head pains. You can also consult with your doctor about any of these activities first. However, I've found a couple gentle activities that help with relieving some of the pain.
Face massage - For this you can use you a palm stone, gua sha, or your hands to gently massage pressure points and areas on your neck, face, and scalp. This activity often relieves a bit of tension in my head and neck. A gemstone I recommend for head ache relief is blue Apatite. Other stones I'd recommend are Azurite, Gaia Stone, Blue Calcite, Onyx, Blue Sapphire, Blue Tourmaline and there are honestly others that are known to assist with headaches and migraines!
Facial Steam - Lavender or Rosemary Soak is what I like to call it. I'll heat up some water, grab a big mixing bowl, a towel to wrap around my head and the bowl, and any fresh herbs that are known to assist with inflammation, and BOOM we're ready to start doing some deep breathing of steamy herbal air! Put some lavender and/or rosemary into the mixing bowl, pour hot water into the bowl filling it about half way. Now take your towel wrapping it around your head and the bowl locking in the steam from the water. Hold your head over the bowl with hot steam rising to your face and start breathing deeply, in then out. This will at the very least calm you down and make you feel super relaxed. It can also help clear your sinuses.
Drink Tea - Chamomile Tea is known to relieve stress & reduce inflammation. Warm water will alleviate some tension and certain teas can help clear your sinuses. I've also heard a bit of caffeine will help with head aches/migraines. So some times I drink a small glass of jasmine tea to get a boost of caffeine!
I hope this post finds you well. Let me know if you try any of these when you get your next head ache, although I hope you don't get one!! Do you have any activities you do when a head ache or migraine strikes? I'd love to hear!
Welcoming May with a fresh collection featuring Raw Emerald - May's Birthstone. The energy and word that comes to mind with this collection is Symbiosis. The greens and black values of raw emerald remind me of growth as well. When I think of symbiosis - relationships are the centerpiece. This can mean relationships with ourselves, one another, the world, our environment, specific objects -- all of it. Not all of our relationships will be romantic or even with people. Not all of our relationships will be happy or cohesive. Some are more spiritual or metaphysical. An important relationship to note is the one you have with yourself.
I've been thinking a lot about the relationships in my life and how I can improve or work on them to become more peaceful -- even if it's not outwardly beneficial to me. Even if the improvements aren't so much as actions but realizations. All perspectives and experiences are valid, even if we don't agree and beyond that, we all still have a right to live a happy life; regardless of our disagreements. Always being 'liked' is not what is best for us or the world for that matter.
It's important that we disagree, have a solid debate, and still live symbiotically. We don't need to tear one another or ourselves down for being different. Our differences have so much potential to improve our world. These are keys to finding middle ground that might suit us all. That's our ability and privilege as conscious beings. It's all about how we channel our energy. (Yes YOU can channel YOUR energy into the changes you want to see, even in your lifestyle or across the globe!)
That's why this collection also reminds me of growth. Not just because of the color palette but because of the energy emitting from the gemstone Emerald. Growth is important to focus on but also necessary for us to mature and evolve! The feeling of growth is not always pleasant but the benefits of working with your growth instead of against it is... Organic. It's our inherent ability to grow. Think about it, we are constantly reproducing cells in our bodies, thoughts in our minds, making actions, and creating 'things'. The luscious greens of Emerald remind me of the freshness and strength of growing. The naturalness of it. It's okay for us to change. We don't have to stay the same and in fact, from one moment to the next, we literally aren't the same!
This collection is inviting us to embrace ourselves for our uniqueness and inherent ability to grow all the time. It is also encouraging us to embrace that quality in one another! We can change and others do too! It is happening all the time. Know that we assist one another as well as ourselves through moments of transition. There are times when we are leaders by example; others when we learn from what we watch. Never fear standing out or being on your own. It can be an incredibly valuable lesson for yourself and anyone who may see what you're doing. We have the power to speak to one another from a place of love, experience, and wisdom. Share your experiences with the world, when you can. It could save us all or even change the world one person at a time. Being different is valuable AND NATURAL. Thinking for yourself should not exclude you from the world or its communities. This is how we can generate an inclusive future. Embracing that naturalness of growth, change, and our differences from one moment to the next! <3
I hope you are blessed with abundance in your scarce areas.
Be well, laugh lots, find reasons to smile.
I've always been drawn toward stones. When I was a little girl I'd scavenge shore lines for hours, entertained by all the colors while waters rushed over the surface. Being from Michigan and spending all summers on some kind of lake, I was particularly drawn toward agate and fossils which are quite abundant here. I had a sharp eye for petoskey stones too. I'd find them and bring them to my grand mother who always coveted the find. It's this inherent call toward nature and stones that guides me to make jewelry with gemstone beads as well as collect crystals well into my 20's. Who would've thought that childhood activity is so much more than a hobby. Rocks, crystals, gemstones..
they are my passion and I'll be the first in line to vouch for their effectiveness in healing humans.
There are plenty of studies PROVING that being in touch with nature improves our human lives. Don't believe me? Just search for scholarly articles about nature improving our metal health or simply the term 'Ecotherapy'. Take this one from Harvard for example. There is no one pill or activity that can just magically take your pain, trauma, sadness, anger, etc. away, BUT we, as conscious and highly intelligent beings, can put our best efforts into healing and growing stronger through these experiences and/or emotions. I say that crystals improve those healing abilities 10 fold. Crystals, being part of nature and human cultures through the ages, even BEFORE Jesus was a thing, have quite the reputation for healing. For thousands of years people have used crystals for healing. There is no doubt in my mind as to the robust energy wells that can be tapped into through our connection with nature, mineral formations specifically.
What do we do when we want to get better at something?
We focus on it. Similar to how we spend years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in college to study our favorite subjects, we have to put the time in to gain any experience, knowledge, emotional maturity, and credibility. So we need to put the time into ourselves to feel the benefits of crystals and study all the knowledge collected about them over the years. This is what I mean, We need to focus on it. Gemstones are a reminder of our connection between the earth and our beings: Body, Mind, Spirit, and Soul. Their colors, shapes, and intricacies inspire us and remind us of our inherent beauty. Their raw formations connected to the sacred geometry of life and our literal STEAM mathematics taught in school even through out college level courses. Their minerals comprised of the very same that we are made of, that we need to ingest to survive, and elements of that well known periodic table. So I say, let us connect with the stones. Allow them to remind us of our human powers. No we can't fly, but we can heal and grow and change and that is pretty fucking miraculous if you ask me.
Using Crystals to Heal & To Cleanse
Healing ourselves and cleansing our spaces, physical and mental, takes time. It's hard work. It can be exhausting but improving your life is SO WORTH IT. When I tapped back into rocks, my life started getting better. It was the time I began questioning everything I was surrounded by. I reassessed my priorities. I wanted to change so I used gemstones and my business surrounding them to affirm my goals.
I purchased a book called "The Book Of Stones" and dove right into reading about all my favorite stones which inevitably lead to meditating with them, shouting affirmations, and learning that gemstones have been part of humanity for thousands of years. Before many of the religions of modern day. There's something about gemstones that humans need. All we have to do is look within to find what we want to work on and apply ourselves to the change.
If you don't know, for a while I was speaking very openly about sexual traumas from my younger years. I looked into stones that assist with healing from sexual trauma. There were multiple specimen known to help with that process. One particular stone is called Rhodochrosite, which I've been working with for several years. It helped me so much, I purchased several more tumbled stones and cabochon to share with my friends and family.
Healing is very personal. A lot of the work can only be done by you. Similar to our spiritualities. Everything we believe is very unique to our individual experiences. I can not tell you how to heal yourself but I can share with you a bit of what I did in this never ending process.
I believe that you are what you eat, down to the music to listen to and the people you surround yourself with. Even your thoughts are very powerful and can cause a great deal of motion in the world. I stopped listening to music that I felt degraded me and my mind. I stopped surrounding myself with people who took advantage of my kindness, generosity, and energy.
I turned to gratitude for my life instead of always looking out into the world for validation. I remembered who I was as a little girl. Looking back at pictures of myself so young, adventurous, smiling with no fear... What happened to me? I'm still the same person but at some point I stopped wanting to wake up in the morning. I found the root of this depression and I've worked for several years to heal from it. I can say with confidence that my art, moving my body, and the loyalty of my family got me back to where I am today. With the help of gemstones, I feel the process was accelerated.
Welcome to the Transmutation Collection by Citrine Tangerine. This collection was released on the Fall Equinox to honor the change of season. I broke the entire collection into phases, for continuous release and to give each piece a little extra time to be appreciated.
This collection is based on the action of personal Transmutation. I invite you to set intentions that manifest through transformative action leading to personal growth. Lets plant some new seeds, nurture our already budding ideas and honor this great seasonal change.
Smokey Quartz is the feature stone of this collection for two reasons; its healing energies and its color range. (I made a crystal reading on Smokey Quartz from The Book Of Stones available on Youtube)
As you may know, gemstones are millions of years old, holding ancient wisdom and healing properties as well. It is proven that nature heals us and gemstones are an impressive part of nature. Meditations and affirmations are proven to improve our health and have been bonded with crystals for hundreds of years. Their crystal forms are sacred. It’s no wonder we collect and adorn ourselves with them.
When I dove into the healing properties of Smokey Quartz, I knew as a collective, we needed more of this stone in our lives. Here’s a short write up from what I read in The Book Of Stones:
“Crystal Smokey Quartz
Chakra Root 1st
Transmutation of negative energies,
Manifestation of one’s dreams and inspirations
Affirmation I am grounded and centered in my physical body and I work step-by-step to achieve my goals
Smokey Quartz is a premier grounding stone. It can help even the spaciest of individuals find their ‘land legs’. It is one of the most powerful grounding and clearing stones. Like the smoke from a sage bundle, the energy of Smokey Quartz cleanses and clears the aura and energetic systems. It enables negative energies to be clarified so they may become usable and healthy once again.
Spirit Smokey Quartz is a spiritual grounding stone, helping one to receive and utilize more high frequency energy. It assists one in aligning the physical body with an expanded range of light frequencies and is both purifying and protective.
Emotion Smokey Quartz is a wonderful friend for those who resist being embodied. It can help one feel more engaged in the world and capable of creating or changing one’s reality.
Physical Smokey Quartz is best used to counter the negative effects of radiation, including sunburn, exposure to radioactive materials, medical radiation therapy, and exposure to focused electromagnetic fields.”
You can see it cleanses, purifies, grounds, and removes negative or toxic energy from the aura, clearing the room and transmutes into a productive, organized and uplifting energy. This is a powerful action for a gemstone to assist us with. It literally encourages us to take the higher route. It reminds us of the brighter side and can even take us out of our most depressive mental states.
Smokey Quartz coloring ranges from soft gray to deep black. You can also get smokey versions of most quartz variety crystals such as amethyst and citrine. Gray scale is a fantastic way to amplify color in any visual works. I used this to play with colorful gemstones with smokey quartz as their spotlight counter part. Who doesn’t love a vibrant pop of color? Most of the Smokey Quartz beads in this collection are middle gray but the shapes and textures of the beads vary. Some of them are raw chunks, others highly polished, but all are about the same tone of gray.
It is my intention to connect you with a powerful and abundant stone that can help us transmute into our best selves by clearing the air of any bad energies. What does transmutation mean? This word was brought to my attention by Smokey Quartz. It has a few contexts but the concept is always the same. Transmutation ‘is the action of changing or the state of being changed into another form.’ In physics this is done by nuclear bombardment or radioactive decay. In history and biology it’s the conversion or transformation of one species into another. There is also reference to transmutation in alchemy.
The concept is similar with intention setting, although we are not being bombarded by nuclear physics or changing from one human into another per-say, we have the ability to change and transform our bodies, minds, and paths in life by our actions. We can with a bit practicality, organization, cleansing, and protection, achieve our goals, dreams and aspirations. Smokey Quartz can be the reminder we all need to accomplish gigantic tasks! We can change. We can be leaders. But we have to LEAD by example and not follow in the footsteps of those who predate us. The gemstones can inspire us to go beyond what our human environment has to offer when we tap into their frequencies.
